Consumer Team

Hello and welcome to the consumer team and a snapshot into our roles.

Hi, I'm Lynda Thoumine and I am the Consumer Advisor at Te Korowai Whāriki.  In this role I sit at a strategic level of the organisation, which means I am involved in meetings where decisions are made about the services provided by Te Korowai Whāriki, both on a regional as well as local basis.

Part of my role involves networking with consumer groups in the community.  I do this so that I am up to date with any issues in the wider community and any new trends which are emerging.  I keep informed of what is happening around service delivery in the various units on the Ratonga Rua o Porirua campus, through the direct input from the consumer consultants.

My role requires me to give advice to the Operations Managers of Te Korowai-Whāriki and Executive Director (Operations) of the Mental Health Directorate as and when requested.  I become involved with projects of importance to the Service User group at Te Korowai Whāriki, as does the Consumer Consultant, but this is usually at a different level from the Consultant.

I lead the Consumer Council (see separate page) at Te Korowai Whāriki and seek information from them on many topics.
I am involved in policy making, providing a consumer voice and working through the implementation and delivery of that policy.  I also lead the Consumer Team at Te Korowai Whāriki and I am accountable to the Operations Managers of Te Korowai Whāriki for the work the Consumer Team does.

AND SO TO.....

Kiaorana from Mary Maringikura Campbell.

I am the Consumer Consultant at Te Korowai Whāriki.  The position I hold means that I sit at the service delivery level in the organization.   I support the Consumer Advisor by identifying systemic issues, gaps and or other barriers concerning consumer participation that arise for her to action.  I attend resident meetings, consumer council meetings and multi disciplinary meetings as well as meetings that the Consumer Advisor and or allied staff feel that my input would be valuable.
I input into policy to help ensure that consumer and whanau interaction is supported and promoted.  I am available to consumers as well as staff to discuss any new initiatives that enhance consumer participation in the service.
I am continually looking for innovative ways to increase consumer participation and utilize my experience, communication skills and community networks( and wider) to do this.

I bring a cultural perspective to Te Korowai Whāriki and I am a avid supporter of Taha Maori in this service.  I believe that consumers, working in partnership alongside staff, are an integral part of the recovery process here at Te Korowai Whāriki .
