Staff Exchange Scheme

What is the Staff Exchange Scheme?
It is a scheme to operate an exchange of TKW staff with another organisation engaged in the same area of work but based elsewhere within this country or another country whereby both organisations and participating individuals benefit from this workforce development initiative.
Key Objectives of the Scheme
- Learn from other organisations to improve our services
- Develop those employees who demonstrate significant contribution and promise for the advancement of the Service
- Improve professionalism and confidence of our employees
- Promote the Service as a leader in the field thereby improving its prospects as a potential consultancy service
- Serve as an incentive for employees to improve their performance and contribution to the Service
Selection Criteria
- At least 2 years of service within TKW in a frontline clinical role or in leadership role of planning, organizing, supervising/leading staff who interface directly with patients/customers
- Evidence of active engagement in learning to advance their knowledge and/or skills
- Is alert to the surrounding environment and intellectually curious to investigate
- Supporting evidence of being a team player
- Supporting evidence of sharing information
- Able to produce evidence of actions taken by self of improving existing practices for the betterment of patients/customers or the service
- Supporting evidence of having made presentations to a group with positive impact
- Perceived by peers and managers as presenting self professionally at all time
Duration of Exchange
Generally 1 - 4 weeks at a time
Hosting Organisation
- Another DHB within NZ
- A hospital and/or health service in Australia
- A relevant health organisation further afield
Terms and Conditions of Travel and Work During the Exchange
- Staff member keen and willing to undertake exchange opportunity by completing the attached application form, endorsed by immediate manager (and next level manager if applicable)
- If the staff member is a clinician, they have current practising certificate
- Applications will be approved by Executive Director (Operations) -TKW
- Existing weekly pay will be maintained during the exchange except no overtime or penal rates will be payable unless shift work or weekend work is involved. However, NZ public holiday will be observed and work remunerated accordingly
- The Capital &Coast DHB Employee Code of Conduct will continue to apply
- Policies and procedures, clinical protocols, and any other requirements imposed by the host organisation will apply
- Return airfares or ground travel, as applicable, will be paid
- Accommodation, meals, local travel to work and back, and other directly related reasonable expenses will be covered
- TKW will provide relevant indemnity cover covering the exchange period
- Upon returning, the staff member will submit a report on the learning, at a presentation attended by relevant staff, and will also present a plan to implement some of the learning.
- Success of future application from the same staff will be heavily dependent on evidence of return on investment in quality/efficiency/staff morale terms.
