August 2009
The official opening of Ruaumoko, NgÄ WÄhi AkÅnga, Rongomatane and Vaka o le Pasifika took place on Tuesday 25 August 2009. C&CDHB Chief Operating Officer, Shaun Drummond, officiated by unveiling all the signs. The day started at the Vaka with a blessing in their new premises. The Vaka looked magnificent and was the result of staff working very hard to make the opening deadline. From the Vaka, people moved down the road to the Convention Centre (NgÄ WÄhi AkÅnga). Upwards of a hundred people attended, including members of the C&CDHB Board, the Ministry of Health, the architects and construction personnel. All were very complimentary on the NgÄ WÄhi AkÅnga facilities and were sure that this would be a well used and valued part the Mental Health Directorate and of the DHB as a whole.

Breakfast in Schools has started in another Porirua school. Te Korowai WhÄriki staff that are participating in this scheme find it most rewarding and enjoyable. If staff are interested in being part of this programme they should contact Anne Le'aupepe. Red Cross organise the teams on each day according to how much or how little time people have. They also administer the requirement to get a police check, which is a necessity for all volunteers at schools, and ordering supplies.
The Good Ideas email address has had some response by staff. Don't forget, you can send a message to this email at any time, it is under Good Ideas in the email address list or the email goodideas "at" ccdhb.org.nz.
It is great to see the Raiha Street Journal continue in a new and improved format. Good work from all those concerned. We will ask the consumer team if we can put a copy on the website. And, speaking of websites, the Local Mental Health Service Website will be going live next week. Log into http://www.mentalhealthservices.org.nz/. Feedback on either of the websites is welcome.
